BMW: Costa Rica Electric Vehicle Map
By 2023, Costa Rica had become the third country in Latin America with the largest network of Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations. Yet most drivers had no idea where to find them.
Rather than simply claiming the country was ready for electric mobility, BMW set out to prove it.
Working with a digital cartographer, we mapped all 249 charging stations across the country and created the Costa Rica EV Map — the first comprehensive, shareable record of the national charging network on Google Maps.
The issue wasn't the infrastructure, it was the awareness gap.
Drivers struggled to locate charging stations and questioned whether Costa Rica was truly ready for electric mobility. The challenge was not to build infrastructure, but to make it visible and shift perception through facts rather than advertising.
A solution that became a public good.
The map enabled anyone to locate charging stations, plan routes, and share information with others, transforming a fragmented network into a public tool with real-world value.
Sometimes the best campaign isn't an ad. It's a solution.
